About Me
Hey, I'm Luis Ronquillo
I'm a Mechanical Engineering student at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, graduating in 2029. I've been drawn to engineering from an early age through hands-on tinkering and curiosity—taking apart broken watches, digital alarm clocks, and even an old Pac-Man mini arcade machine just to understand how they worked. That curiosity grew into building my own PC and spending countless hours designing and constructing with LEGO, experiences that shaped how I approach problem-solving today.
Now a sophomore, I'm building on that foundation with hands-on industry experience from my R&D engineering internship at ProAmpac, while continuing to explore different technical paths through coursework and extracurricular involvement.
◆ My Passions
Engineering, to me, is about understanding how things work and finding better ways to build them. I enjoy the process of breaking systems down, analyzing their components, and figuring out how design choices affect performance. Whether it's mechanical assemblies, prototyping, or manufacturing methods like 3D printing, I'm excited by the challenge of turning ideas into something tangible.
Outside the classroom, I'm involved in ASME, MakerLab, and SHPE, where I enjoy collaborating with other students and gaining exposure to real-world engineering practices. I also value staying active through running, basketball, pickleball, and intramural sports, which reinforce teamwork, discipline, and balance.
◆ Where I'm Headed
I'm still exploring where I want to specialize within mechanical engineering, but I'm especially drawn to hands-on, design-focused experiences. In the coming years, I hope to join project-based teams such as Design, Build, Fly or Grand Prix Engineering to further develop my technical and teamwork skills.
Looking ahead, my goal is to continue learning, building, and challenging myself as an engineer while discovering the fields and problems that excite me most.
